BIO:

After four years of a Fine Art degree program (BfA) with intentions to teach (B.Ed), Eric accepted employment from IBM Canada. Eric spent several years in the business world working closely with many Fortune 500 clients for IBM Canada. This eclectic managerial experience allowed him an opportunity to witness client side business issues from varied management, CEO, CFO and CIO perspectives. In a full circle move, the launch of Scribblers’ Club satisfied a desire to help businesses connect with their clients.

Several years later Scribblers' Club has become a muse to Eric. He attributes much of the Scribblers' Club client success to the collaboration of smart business people and the Scribblers' Club members. He will tell you there are no “prima donna designers” in the club. They do not fit the ethic of our business. “If fluorescent paper works, then it gets used”. Scribblers' Club is recognized for its high calibre of work, Eric is a media sponge that acts as helmsman to the collective soul of Scribblers and its clients.

Carl Karcher Enterprises, having been inspired by a Scribblers’ Club designed transportable show structure, invited Eric Sweet to compete for the next Carl’s Jr. Architectural Prototype. CKE had also invited proposals from Ricardo Legoretta, Michael Graves and Frank Gehry. Positioning Scribblers' Club as creative consultants to the Franchise Development team Scribblers’ Club won the bid and was subsequently instrumental in it’s final design. Every aspect of the consumer interaction was investigated and reinvented with a mandate to manage the Carl’s Jr brand experience at every touchpoint. The end result; Jim McGrory of Franchise Development reported a 28% increase overall in customer satisfaction specific to the “Prototype M”.

The Carl’s Jr. prototype M led to other franchise remodel work, more recently the Baja Fresh chain. California’s Cyprus, Cherry Hill, San Jose and Camarillo pads are all finished Scribblers’ Club inspired designs. Baja Fresh’s brand is “real”, with no preservatives, no MSG, and no microwaves. The Scribblers’ team presented the consumer centric “always fresh salsa bar” as the franchise hero and then kept everything as authentic as possible to support it. Low reflective surfaces, indirect lighting, directional sound-scaping and managed acoustics all designed to keep the food center stage while shedding everything familiar to a typical fast food venue. A QSR oasis for consumer mind and body it was all in the details. Washrooms were aesthetically designed to be clean feeling, pleasant and completely hands free, cantilevered “legless” tables were designed to remove visual clutter, promote a cleaner dining environment and increase patron ease of entry, even the in-store vernacular, typeface and wayfinding were all redesigned to promote Baja’s live fresh attitude. From graphic and web, thru industrial and architectural design, Eric Sweet feels fortunate to have surrounded himself with the brightest talents from diverse backgrounds who continually challenge each other and Scribblers' Club clients to accomplish great things.
